Hyundai is locked and loaded to debut its redesigned, 2015 Sonata at the New York Auto Show next month. For one enterprising Korean photographer, however, the reveal just couldn't come soon enough.
A South Korean website called Bobaedream.co.kr unceremoniously published some images of what would appear to be a completely undisguised example of the new Sonata. Korean Car Blog
quickly followed up on the leak, claiming that the car in question was
fitted with Hyundai's 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI engine, making 274
horsepower, and connected to an all-new, seven-speed dual-clutch
transmission.
Whether that information came from a reliable insider source (as the
photos would suggest) or was just a best guess, we can't say. But we can
see what direction Hyundai is headed in with the Sonata. The front end
seen in the spy shots is more or less what we'd already seen in the last teaser picture,
with a new headlamp design helping to set off a prominent grille. The
grille does seem to have some element of the strong, graphical surround
from the teaser, too, though it's not as defined in these low-resolution
pictures. Sheetmetal on the hood and bodysides seems cleaner,
straighter and less fussy than in the current car, too. As for whether
or not this is the Korean-spec car or the one destined for the US
market, that's unclear, though we have been told that the two cars do
look very similar.
What say you? Does this leaked image promise a better-looking Sonata, or
is the 2015 car a step backwards in terms of design? Tell us which way
you're leaning!

2014 Honda Civic Si gets more power, priced from $22,790*
Honda officially debuted the refreshed 2014 Civic SI Coupe at the SEMA Show last November, but it has taken until now for the Japanese automaker to share full pricing and specs for its high-performance coupe and sedan.
The Si Coupe will go on sale at dealers on March 12 starting at $22,790, and the Si Sedan will follow on March 26 for $22,990 – both prices include a $790 destination charge. Buyers can opt to add summer tires for and additional $200 and navigation for $1,500. While the updates are relatively small, they are welcome.
Both bodystyles are fitted with a slightly tweaked 2.4-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 205 horsepower and 174 pound-feet, an increase of 4 hp and 4 lb-ft of torque, and they only come with a six-speed manual. Fuel economy is unchanged from last year at 22 miles per gallon city, 31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined. Honda didn't reveal performance specs, so we can't be sure if the small boost helps acceleration at all.
In addition to the peppier engine, the Si models have an upgraded suspension with new spring rates, revised dampers and a stiffer rear stabilizer bar. They also get some standard tech additions like a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push-button start and Honda's LaneWatch blind spot monitoring. The key differentiating factor between the two bodystyles is that the coupe wears a restyled hood, front fenders, headlights, and taillights for 2014.

Does this Hyundai Intrado concept preview the next Tucson?
The second generation of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design language has arrived a bit early, thanks to these leaked images of the Korean automaker's Intrado Concept. Set to make its big debut at next month'sGeneva Motor Show, the three-door crossover is based on a next-generation version of the hydrogen powertrain used in Europe's ix35 Fuel Cell (that'd be a hydrogen Tucson, for anyone who's wondering).
We can see some 2015 Genesis Sedan in the grille, but the sharp, narrow LED headlights are something different. The c-shaped LED taillights also look good, although we're less sure about the odd fairings around the wheel wells. Overall, it's not a terrible design in our minds, but it probably won't be the pretties vehicle to debut in Geneva.
But instead of focusing on the design, let's talk about what impact the Intrado may have on Hyundai. Aside from the hydrogen powertrain, it seems as if the Intrado's design is too conservative to be a pure concept. Instead, and as you may have guessed from our headline, we're thinking this could be a preview of the next-generation Tucson. Considering the Tucson and its cousin the ix35 are the oldest vehicles in Hyundai's lineup (not counting the Sonata, which is getting replaced at the New York show) and it's a vehicle sold worldwide, previewing its replacement on a stage as big as Geneva doesn't strike us as a bad idea.
What we can say for certain is that we should expect to know a lot more about the Intrado when it debuts at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show – if not sooner.
